IIST 2013 Admission Criteria Announced

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology - IIST conducted its own entrance examination, ISAT till 2012. As per the decision taken by the MHRD that Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI) should use the JEE MAIN as the entrance examination for admission into under graduate engineering programmes, IIST (being a CFTI) has decided to discontinue its admission test, ISAT from 2013 and join JEE Main.

In the earlier notification of IIST , it was made clear that the admissions to under graduate courses of IIST will be as per the All India Rank list of JEE MAIN 2013 (which would be prepared by the CBSE). IIST had also specified that there would be additional eligibility criteria for the B.Tech admissions; it has now announced that aspirants need to score certain percentage of marks in JEE ADVANCED (the test required to gain admission into the prestigious IITs and ISM,Dhanbad) also.

Following are the highlights:

Admissions are open to - Indian Citizens only

Date of Birth of Aspirants: For general and OBC categories, it is on or after 1.10.1988. For SC/ST/PD categories - on or after 1.10.83

Eligibility:

An aspirant has to figure in the All India rank list of JEE MAIN 2013 as prepared by the CBSE.

AND
he should also score certain percentage of marks in JEE ADVANCED 2013.

The aspirant should be listed among the top 1,50,000 candidates of JEE Main 2013 to be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2013. To be eligible for admissions into IIST under graduate programmes, the aspirant has to appear for JEE ADVANCED and has to score the following minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE(Advanced)-2013:

(a) General Candidates: At least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and 20% marks in aggregate.

(b) OBC (NCL) Candidates: At least 90% of the marks prescribed for General Candidates under (a).

(c) SC, ST & PD Candidates: At least 50% the marks prescribed for General Candidates under (a).
Please note that the marks secured by the candidate in JEE (Advanced)-2013 examination will be used ONLY for deciding eligibility for admission, and will not be considered for preparing the rank list for admission to IIST.

Again if candidate does not meet the eligibility criteria, i.e., not scoring the prescribed percentage of marks in JEE ADVANCED will not be considered for admission to B.Tech programmes of IIST even if his/her name appears in the JEE(Main)-2013 rank list.

Admission to Undergraduate Programmes (B.Tech) for the year 2013 will be based on the All India Rank List (including category rank list) to be prepared and published for the year 2013 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This rank list is based on 60% weightage of score in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE(Main)-2013, and 40% of normalized score in Class 12th or other qualifying examinations.
